astrid kirchherr was born on 20th may 1938 in hamburg, germany
from 1957 until 1960 she studied photography 
under reinhart wolf, whom she worked
 as an assistant for from
 1959 until 1963

in 1960 
she met the beatles
 during their visit to hamburg  
photographs that she took remain
 the definitive images of the
band during that period

1964 saw astrid 
working as a freelance photographer
she went to liverpool with max scheler 
when the beatles were filming a hard day’s night 
to take photographs for the german magazine stern

in 1968 she took the photograph used on the cover of george harrison’s wonderwall music album


in the 70s and 80s 
photography became less important to astrid 
from the mid-eighties she became involved in the making of the movie backbeat (released in 1994) which created a new interest in her photographs
-  the film told the story of her relationship with original beatles bass player, stuart sutcliffe, as well as the early days of the band in hamburg

since the films release the photographs have been exhibited all over the world including america, japan and europe
